SportsReport: Everton dealt blow in pursuit of 'complete package' as West Ham plan January move
Everton have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Josh King as West Ham United are planning a January move, according to Football Insider.
As per the outlet, David Moyes’ team have apparently laid the groundwork to sign him in the next transfer window.
The asking price of King may significantly tumble in January given that he would only have six months left remaining on his current deal at the Vitality Stadium.
The Hammers also believe that the Norway international is keen to sign for the East London side, which will come as a bit of a blow to the Toffees given that they were reportedly plotting a move for him in the summer transfer window.
King has done well in the Premier League
Indeed, King has done well in the Premier League, having scored a quite impressive 48 goals and made a further 15 assists in 161 games in the top flight for the Cherries (per Transfermarkt).
King may well be able to provide decent cover up top for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison for the Goodison Park faithful, should one of them get injured or suspended for a sustained period of time.
His former manager Eddie Howe called him the ‘complete package’ after he scored a brace in an EPL game against Newcastle United in the 2018/19 term.
Should Everton hijack the King deal?
Everton should consider hijacking West Ham’s deal for Josh King given his pedigree in England’s highest division and the fact that he could provide some good cover up front. There is also the possibility Richarlison may eventually leave the club to seek European football.
King’s price tag should also be lowered given the context of his current contract and so perhaps the Blues should be looking to sign the 28-year old in the January transfer window.
