Speaking to Football Insider, Sky Sports pundit and ex-Tottenham keeper Paul Robinson has issued a slight warning to chairman Daniel Levy over the club’s decision to expand their new ground just over a year after opening.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finally welcomed the club, players and fans alike last April, with Son Heung-min netting the ground’s first ever goal, but Levy has now taken the decision to increase it’s capacity already.
Despite the impact of a recent global pandemic, which will see fans unable to attend for the foreseeable future, Levy is planning to add more seats in an effort to gain future revenue.
Robinson issues Levy warning
While Robinson has praised the chairman’s ambition and growth of the club as a whole, stating it ‘just goes to show’ how far they’ve come, the former Lilywhites stalwart has also dropped a warning for Levy to consider.
The ex-England international believes that Tottenham can sell out the ground when they’re playing well, but also draws back to when the Wembley allocation suffered due to a bad run of form under Mauricio Pochettino.
“I am not surprised that they want to extend it because they could fill whatever size stadium they like so long as the team is playing well,” explained the pundit to Football Insider.
“But we must remember that they struggled to fill it at Wembley when they were not playing well. There is a fine line.”

Given the current state of attendances due to the crazy year that is 2020, and taking into account Robinson’s verdict, it could be questionable why Levy wants to instigate an expansion at this point.
Regardless, as the club continues to grow, you could also make a case that facilities need to grow with it – albeit at a steady and maintainable pace.
