Latest comments from Allan Saint-Maximin may point to him staying at Newcastle - Opinion
The latest comments made by Allan Saint-Maximin on Steve Bruce may point to him staying at Newcastle United beyond the end of the 2019/20 season.
Speaking on the BBC’s Football Focus show (via The Chronicle), the 23-year old was full of praise for his manager, claiming that Bruce believes in him and that he would ‘do everything’ for the coach because of the positive relationship that he has with him.
Indeed, Saint-Maximin has been enjoying a relatively impressive 2019/20 season so far, scoring three goals and providing four assists in 23 games in the Premier League, while also creating eight big chances and averaging 4.6 successful dribbles and 1.3 key passes per match in the top flight, according to Sofascore.
His displays have attracted interest from the likes of French champions Paris Saint Germain in recent weeks and, being a Frenchman himself, there may have been concerns that he would move to PSG -especially given the fact that they have qualified for the Champions League once again and are still in the competition this season, as they are due to face Italian side Atalanta in the quarter finals.
However, Saint-Maximin’s recent remarks on Bruce may suggest that he is here to stay at St. James’ Park at least for now.
The winger may have the added incentive of the proposed takeover of the Tyneside club, as they may become very wealthy if the Premier League approves of the £300m deal between Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley’s Saudi Arabian-led group.
Nevertheless, Saint-Maximin seems to be focused on the Magpies for now as they aim for a strong finish to the current term.
