SportsTraining ground absence explained as Coventry's £1m-plus signing misses out
New Coventry City signing Gustavo Hamer’s absence from the club’s return to training on Monday morning has been explained.
The 23-year-old midfielder becomes Mark Robins’ first signing ahead of their return to the Championship after gaining promotion from League One this year.
Netherlands underage international Hamer arrived in the Midlands for a fee of just over £1m with a wealth of experience in Dutch football, having originally made his first team debut for Feyenoord against Ajax back in 2017.
Following a short loan spell with Dordrecht in the Eerste Divisie, Hamer joined PEC Zwolle and it was his performances there, netting four goals in 50 appearances over two seasons for them, which gained him a move to Coventry.
Set to take part in Coventry’s first pre-season training session ahead of the 2020/21 season, Hamer was absent at the club’s training ground Ryton as Robins put his players through their paces.
New signing Julien Dacosta was in attendance as he met his new team-mates, but Hamer’s absence has now been explained as Coventry LIVE reveal that he will take part in Wednesday’s session after only arriving back in England on Monday morning.
With Robins now preparing for the new season, one pre-season fixture has already been confirmed against Scottish Premiership giants Rangers, with the Sky Blues due to travel to Ibrox on July 25.
Coventry City fans must be chomping at the bit to get the 2020/21 season going. The club have made two shrewd additions with Hamer and Dacosta coming in and Robins is expected to bring in further reinforcements between now and the start of the new campaign.
It should be interesting to see how ex-Feyenoord man Hamer fares out at Championship level for the Sky Blues.
