SportsReport: Rangers reveal stance amidst EPL interest in £4.5m-valued star
Glasgow Rangers are to tell West Ham United that they have no intention of selling James Tavernier before the end of the transfer window, according to The Daily Record.
The Hammers have been linked with a move for the 28-year-old, along with Brighton and Burnley, with David Moyes looking for defensive reinforcements ahead of the deadline on October 5th. However, Steven Gerrard is keen to hold on to the right-back, and as such the Gers will issue a clear “not-for-sale” warning to the Premier League side. West Ham themselves are also worried that any potential fee would be too high for them.
This should not really come as any surprise – Tavernier is absolutely vital to Gerrard’s chances of success so far this campaign. He is the club’s captain, after all, and although he has at times been criticised for his defending, the Gers have conceded just three times in nine Premiership games so far this term.
It is going forward where Tavernier is truly at his best, though. Since making the move to Ibrox, he has managed 52 goals and a huge 78 assists in 254 appearances for the 54-time Scottish champions. Already this term, he has six strikes to his name, which makes him the side’s top goalscorer.
Ross Wilson and co have already shown their strength in the midst of interest in their star talents, with them already turning down a bid of £10m for Ryan Kent. Currently valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, and with two years left on his contract, the Gers are in a good position to do the same with Tavernier.
