“He’s been fantastic” – Pundit drools over Liverpool’s “pressing monster”
Former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson has sung the praises of Liverpool winger Diogo Jota for the impact he’s had on Merseyside since his summer move.
Dio-goal Jota
The 23-year-old has been in impressive form since his £41m move from Wolves in the summer, scoring three goals from his first eight appearances for the Reds in all competitions.
Most recently, his contribution during Tuesday night’s 2-0 victory against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League was the club’s 10,000th competitive goal, etching his name into the Anfield history books having not yet broken into double figures in terms of outings for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The Portuguese winger has received his plaudits in recent weeks, particularly from Liverpool’s assistant manager Pep Lijnders, who described Jota as a “pressing monster” in training (via JOE), and Robinson has now waded in with his views on him. Speaking to Football Insider, the former England shot-stopper loved what he has seen from Liverpool’s new number 20 so far, saying:
“Jota has got a very hard job trying to get in ahead of Salah, Firmino and Mane. He will have realised when he signed that this was not going to be an easy task. It is a mentality thing.
“He has got to stay fit and focused and when he is given his opportunity he needs to take it, like he has done in the past two games. He’s been fantastic.”
The perfect start
If Jota had envisaged how life on Merseyside would begin for him, there are fairly few scenarios which could have topped what he has shown so far. Effectively overnight, he has become an essential part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad and a perfect backup for their formidable front three.
On current form, he has the potential to break into the first team and as a young player, could be the answer for the Merseysiders over the coming years.
Granted, this is much further down the line but Jota just needs to keep doing what he is doing, impressing in training and performing on the pitch when it matters.
In other news, Liverpool are keen to secure stunning January move for “outstanding” defender.
