SportsReport: Coventry announce signing of former Germany underage international
Coventry City have announced a deal to sign German winger Marcel Hilssner from SC Paderborn via their official website.
Sky Blues boss Mark Robins guided the club to promotion from League One this year and he is now focused on bolstering his squad ahead of their Championship campaign next season.
He had already made three summer signings in Gustavo Hamer from PEC Zwolle, Julien Dacosta from Chamois Niortais, and former Aston Villa midfielder Callum O’Hare, who penned a three-year contract earlier this week.
Hilssner arrives for an undisclosed transfer fee after spending time during his career with Werder Bremen, for whom he has played in the Bundesliga.
The former Germany under-19 international called time on his Bremen spell in 2016, moving to Dynamo Dresden and later Hansa Rostock before joining Paderborn last summer. While he didn’t feature for their first team in the Bundesliga, he appeared for their second team prior to a loan spell at third-tier Hallescher.
Following his arrival on Thursday morning, Coventry boss Robins told Coventry’s official website: “We’re pleased to welcome Marcel to the Club as we continue our recruitment for the Championship.
“Marcel adds another exciting option to our squad and is someone we’re looking forward to working with.
“Marcel is a strong and creative attacking player who can play on either wing or in the centre, and he will be a great asset for us.”
With four summer signings already made, Robins is wasting no time in sealing some promising transfers to bolster his squad ahead of the Championship season.
Hilssner is something of an unknown quantity but Robins would likely have done his homework on the player and, as a Germany underage international, he must surely have no shortage of quality about him.
