Report: Bundesliga side throw a spanner in the works of Chelsea's pursuit of Kai Havertz
Chelsea have suffered a blow in their mission to sign hot summer target Kai Havertz from the Bundesliga.
Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly not looking to consider any offers for the 21-year-old until their Europa League campaign is complete (according to Kicker, via the Express).
A mini-tournament is due to take place next month to decide the winner of the competition and the German outfit clearly value Havertz in their run for silverware. Frank Lampard must now wait even longer to table an offer for the young playmaker.
Leverkusen are looking for a fee of £90million to part ways with the midfielder, a sum which Sky Sports highlighted only Chelsea could offer. The outlet branded the Blues favourites to acquire his signature after already signing attackers Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
Havertz is the West London outfit’s top priority this summer, along with heavy links to Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Leicester’s Ben Chilwell. Lampard clearly has no plans to slow down in his quest to transform this Chelsea side into a title-challenging one.
