Report: Arsenal face battle with AC Milan and PSG for 19 y/o midfielder with 10 goals
Arsenal are being linked with a lot of summer signings, although they seemingly face hefty competition in their transfer pursuit of Red Bull Salzburg youngster Dominik Szoboszlai.
According to Calciomercato.com, the Gunners and Paris Saint-Germain are monitoring the 19-year-old midfielder, but AC Milan see him as one of their main transfer targets this summer.
Their interest was further supported when Italian journalist Vita Angele tweeted: “Contacts with #Rangnick have been going on for days. At this point in time AC Milan only has to communicate with #Salzburg in order to pay the release clause.”
This seems to suggest that Milan are at the head of the queue, so if Arsenal do want to sign him, they may need to act quickly.
Szoboszlai has played 40 times in all competitions for Red Bull Salzburg this season, including both the Europa League and Champions League, and he has netted 10 goals as well as providing two assists in 2019/20, as per Transfermarkt.
He has also averaged two shots and 1.4 key passes a game (as per WhoScored), which along with his goal contributions serves to highlight the danger he poses in attacking areas of the pitch.
The fact that he is being linked with renowned European clubs like PSG and AC Milan also highlights his quality, although it is worth wondering whether Arsenal should splash the cash on Szoboszlai or spend their funds elsewhere.
The Gunners have big defensive issues, as players like David Luiz and Sead Kolasinac have cost the team points due to their mistakes, and therefore Mikel Arteta should perhaps spend money on his defence rather than his attack as it stands.
It is also unknown if the manager will have a lot of financial backing, so whilst Arsenal have attacking players like Gabriel Martinelli, Joe Willock and Bukayo Saka coming through the ranks, as well as Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who can provide the goals, Arteta should prioritise defensive signings rather than supplementing an already rich array of attacking talent.
Gunners fans, should Arsenal consider purchasing Szoboszlai or should defensive signings be a priority? Comment below with your views!
