Sheffield United have been keen on Anderlecht defender Elias Cobbaut in recent months and now his current club have set a price tag on the player if anyone wants to sign him.
According to Belgian media outlet DHnet, via Vital, Belgian side Anderlecht will allow the left-back to depart this summer, but only if they receive at least €10m (£9.1m) for the player.
Sheffield United were keen on the player in the January transfer window, via Le Soir, but the Blades decided to continue monitoring him and did not make a formal offer.
The 22-year-old has been enjoying his football at Anderlecht, as he featured 26 times in all competitions for them in the 2019/20 season, per Transfermarkt. He also made his debut for Belgium last November, so if he can get into the national team that currently sits top of FIFA’s world ranking, he must have plenty of ability.
Enda Stevens currently plays in the left-back position at Sheffield United and he is a very solid player who has been a big part in the Blades keeping more than a dozen clean sheets in the Premier League this season, per Transfermarkt.
However, he is now 30, so Chris Wilder may need to be look at a potential future replacement, with Cobbaut an ideal candidate to be the Irishman’s long-term successor as the Blade’s first choice left-back.
An outlay of £9.1 million isn’t much, either, in this day and age for someone who has been capped for Belgium and, at 22, has huge potential to develop into an even better player. Therefore, he seems like a target that is well worth pursuing.
