'Can I rely on you?' - Ex-Gers star suggests £540k-valued 'talented player' could leave Ibrox

Alan Hutton has suggested that Jordan Jones could depart Glasgow Rangers over the next four to five weeks.

Jones made the move to Ibrox last summer on a free transfer from Kilmarnock after scoring 11 goals and providing 22 assists in 119 matches for the club – however, his career hasn’t really kicked on with the Gers. He made just 14 appearances in all competitions last term, and is yet to score his first goal for the club.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton has suggested that the next few weeks could decide the 25-year-old’s future. He said:

“I actually felt for him because I could see it in his face when he went in for the tackle against Celtic, he was just that up for it, the excitement of the Old Firm game, he just had a rush of blood and did something stupid.

“I think he’s always played well against Rangers in the past when he played for Kilmarnock so he’s another one that I do believe is a talented player and can offer something but it’s whether he’s willing to sit about and wait for the opportunity.

“I can’t see him being Gerrard’s first pick so it’s really up to him to grasp it over this pre-season. I think there’s a lot of players in that situation where they’ll be using this four, five weeks for their future.

“Gerrard will be watching and think with a big season coming up: ‘Can I rely on you, can I trust you?'”

There is plenty of competition on the left wing – Ryan Kent, in particular, is expected to be Steven Gerrard’s first choice this season. The £540,000-valued Northern Ireland international – as per Transfermarkt – is unlikely to be able to muscle his way into the boss’ plans.

As such, the best course of action for him is to probably leave the Gers and try his luck elsewhere.
