Aston Villa will return to action on Wednesday evening as they face a tough Premier League tie against Sheffield United.
Dean Smith’s side find themselves sat 19th in the Premier League table as thing stand and will have their work cut out to battle alongside the likes of West Ham United, Watford, Bournemouth and Brighton for top-flight status next term.
Having not played since early March due to the pandemic, Villa will look to take advantage of what is a game in hand over the rest of the sides in the relegation battle.
Looking ahead to the tie, the Transfer Tavern has predicted the Villans’ likely starting XI for the match, including three changes from their most recent outing, the 4-0 defeat against Leicester City.
Villa boss Smith will be without the likes of Brazilian striker Wesley and keeper Tom Heaton, who both suffered knee ligament injuries against Burnley on New Year’s Day. Whilst both are gradually returning to full fitness, one player who can be recalled is John McGinn, having seen the Scottish international return from his injury problem – he is likely to be called upon and could replace Douglas Luiz.
In goal for Villa on Wednesday evening, Orjan Nyland is could start after seeing Pepe Reina produce some rather dull performances since arriving at the club in January, keeping no clean sheets in his six appearances.
Ahead of Nyland will be the usual back four including Frederic Guilbert, Matt Targett, Tyrone Mings and Bjorn Engels, whilst a midfield three is likely to consistent of Marvelous Nakamba, Conor Hourihane and the returning McGinn.
The front three will include club captain Jack Grealish and it is likely that Anwar El Ghazi will occupy the opposite flank, replacing Ahmed Elmohamady and looking to provide the impressive Mbwana Samatta with opportunities to score. The Dutchman has been one of the West Midlands club’s most influential players this term, with six goals and seven assists in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
