SportsReport: Winger with unique scoring record to swap Chelsea for Roma as deal is now 'closed'
Serie A side AS Roma have held talks with Chelsea winger Pedro Rodriguez over the last few days ahead of a potential summer move.
As the Premier League season returns this week after a three-month break due to the coronavirus pandemic, Spanish attacker Pedro will be approaching his final playing days at Stamford Bridge, seeing his current contract expire at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.
The former Barcelona man arrived in London back in 2015 and he has since gone on to make 201 appearances for the Blues, netting 43 goals in the process.
Whilst playing time has been consistent over the last few seasons, the 32-year-old has struggled to become a regular under manager Frank Lampard, making just nine Premier League appearances this term.
With his contract coming to an end, Pedro, who famously was the first player to score in six different club competitions during a season, is now gaining transfer interest from Roma.
Corriere dello Sport have reported that the Italian club are moving forward with that interest, claiming that manager Paulo Fonseca has spoken with the winger.
The report also goes on to state that Pedro’s desire this summer is to make a move to the Italian capital and that Roma director Gianluca Petrachi has already closed the deal.
This could be a great move to enter the final years of his playing career for Pedro. The Spanish winger has had a superb career, breaking through at Barcelona under Pep Guardiola, and a potential Serie A title challenge would only add gloss to that.
Chelsea will look to bring in some new faces and, given that Pedro has not featured much for the club this term, he should not be greatly missed moving forward.
