David Alaba shone whilst on international duty for Austria as they defeated Northern Ireland in the Nations League last night.
The match finished 2-1 with Austria scoring both of their goals in the final ten minutes of the clash.
Should Liverpool look to sign Alaba?
The Bayern Munich star had a good display playing out of position as a left midfielder and his overall performance should have caught the eye of many Liverpool fans.
The defender has been linked to the Reds as of late as Jurgen Klopp’s side currently face a defensive crisis with several star players injured or unavailable for selection.
Alaba shone for Austria
The 28-year-old played all 90 minutes and picked up a 7.0 rating (Futmob). He managed an 85% pass success rate, made five recoveries and also made one interception and three key passes (Futmob).
His versatility and qualities have seen him receive a lot of praise, with Pep Guardiola discussing him back when he was Bayern Munich manager. He said: “David Alaba is our God. He has already played in almost all positions.”
For the reigning German and Champions League winners, Alaba has played 396 games, scoring 32 goals and picking up 49 assists (Transfermarkt).
His stats frim the game highlight that Alaba performed well at both ends of the pitch. Whilst Liverpool need defensive cover in the short-term, Alaba’s ability to play in a number of roles could mean that he is more than a stop-gap option, perhaps somebody who could take over from James Milner as the Reds’ utility player.
