SportsReport: Tottenham will be allowed to swoop for £100k-a-week ace on one condition
According to a report by the Evening Standard, Chelsea are ‘prepared’ to allow out-of-favour defensive star Antonio Rudiger to join cross-London rivals Tottenham on a season-long loan deal – but the German must sign a one-year contract extension before agreeing to any temporary move.
Rudiger, who has been left out of the last four match day squads by the Blues, with the likes of Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and Thiago Silva all preferred, will reportedly be allowed to leave west London on a temporary deal to ease Chelsea’s squad count and wage bill.
The £100,000-per-week star, who is an established Germany international, has recently been at the centre of Tottenham’s interests as a ‘plan B‘ option to Serie A colossus Milan Skriniar.
Now, with the Evening Standard reporting that Spurs are turned off by Skriniar’s huge asking price, Rudiger has emerged as a real coup on loan and Chelsea are willing to do a deal.
However, as claimed by journalist Dan Kilpatrick, the Blues and sporting director Marina Granovskaia wish to tie Rudiger down with a one-year contract extension before agreeing to any loan move.
This could be because his contract expires at the end of next season, with Chelsea potentially wishing to hold the high ground when it comes to future negotiations over a potential permanent deal.
Although, regardless of their conditions, this could be a major boost for chairman Daniel Levy as the club eye a defensive signing after agreeing a loan move for Benfica star Carlos Vinicius.
