McAvennie raves over 'great signing' at Celtic with a 'never-say-die attitude'
Celtic legend Frank McAvennie has been full of praise for Diego Laxalt despite the Hoops’ poor run of form.
Laxalt hasn’t had an easy start to his life at Parkhead, but it seems the former Celtic man has seen glimpses of the player that he is thoroughly enjoying.
McAvennie loves Laxalt
Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie said: “I really like the boy Laxalt. I like him a lot. He gets about and puts a tackle in and I like that. He has that never-say-die attitude which is a very good sign. It looks like he will prove to be a great signing.
“I know is it not the same as when I played but I look at some of these boys and I think, ‘Do you know how important this year is?’ If I was playing this year I would be fighting for absolutely everything.”
Is Laxalt a good signing for Celtic?
AC Milan’s Laxalt, who is valued at £4.5 million, made a loan move to the Scottish champions to give them some healthy competition in the left-back position.
Upon his arrival at Parkhead, Lennon said: “I admire him very much. I watched him in the World Cup and thought he had an outstanding competition. He was playing in a very good Uruguayan team with some outstanding players and he looked very comfortable in that company.”
The majority of Laxalt’s games last season were on loan at Torino, and his stats were impressive. The Uruguay international featured 16 times in Serie A and averaged 1.2 tackles and 1.1 clearances per game, via WhoScored.
He has already shown his quality for Celtic in games like the one against Glasgow Rangers. The left-back managed to complete both his attempted dribbles, delivered two accurate crosses, made one interception and won two tackles, despite having what some would consider a sub-par performance by his standards.
Therefore he looks to be a very astute signing that could be crucial to making the season a successful one for the Hoops.
