'It’ll be a big one' - Defender will be 'risked' against Wolves, claims former Leeds man

Former Leeds United midfielder Michael Brown believes that Marcelo Bielsa will risk starting Liam Cooper against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday evening, despite the defender’s injury problem.

The Yorkshire club have followed up their successful promotion from the Championship with an excellent start to the campaign, going three games unbeaten after losing narrowly to Liverpool on the opening day of the Premier League season.

With the upcoming game against Wolves fast approaching, Bielsa is sweating on the fitness of regular centre-back Cooper.

The defender, who has produced superb form this season, gaining a 7.17 out of 10 from WhoScored.com, faces a late fitness test on the morning of the game to determine his availability, but former player Brown believes he could still feature.

What has Brown said about Cooper’s fitness?

“He’s experienced and he’s loving it,” Brown said when talking about Cooper’s current form and injury issue.

“He’s said how well he’s done under Bielsa, what the set up is and the belief he has. He said it’s his club and that he’s pinching himself.

“He had the muscle injury before. It’ll be a big one but the good thing they’ve got is the extra couple of days.

“When you take two of them out you’ll be left with a gap which won’t be ideal so will they take a risk?”

Robin Koch, who has featured already this term for Leeds, is likely to start the game, whilst youngster Pascal Struijk could start if Cooper is not risked.

Can Leeds beat Wolves?

Of course, Leeds have very much been excellent this term in the Premier League and continuing that will be the hope of Bielsa.

Wolves, of course, will pose a big threat to Leeds but with the form shown by Bielsa’s players, predicting the outcome of such a game is extremely hard to do.

The potential absence of Cooper could be pounced upon by Wolves though with Koch and Struijk very much untried if they do partner each other.
