Important update provided by Neil Lennon as fans sweat over £13.5m valued striker's future

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has provided fans of the club with a positive update regarding the future of striker Odsonne Edouard.

The Scottish Premier League side currently sit second in the league standings but have a game in hand over bitter rivals, and league leaders, Rangers.

Having played eight games thus far, 22-year-old striker Edouard has continued his fine form from last term, netting four goals in the six games he has appeared in.

Such form, matched with 21 goals in 27 games and gained 12 assists last season, the French under-21 international has been linked with a number of clubs over the last few weeks.

Premier League side Aston Villa were said to be keen, whilst Arsenal were also said to be interested in exploring a deal for the £13.5m-valued striker.

With the transfer window set to close next Monday (05/10), Celtic boss Lennon has now attempted to calm any fan concerns that the striker may be set to leave the club.

Speaking to Daily Record, the former midfielder said: “I’m very confident he’ll still be here after Monday night. In fact, I think I’m very confident they will all still be here.

“We’re very strong on it, we don’t want to sell any of our players — and we don’t need to now. Maybe if we hadn’t qualified, it would’ve been something the board would’ve had to look at.

“But, that’s not an issue for us now.”

Lennon’s transfer business this summer has seen the club spend just over £11m, bringing in the likes of Shane Duffy on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion, and Albian Ajeti from West Ham United.

Celtic face off against St. Johnstone this coming Sunday before they play a mouth watering tie with Rangers in the middle of October.

This is a great statement from Lennon and one that fans can trust. Villa’s reported interest in the striker has somewhat gone silent since they signed the likes of Ollie Watkins and Bertrand Traore, whilst Arsenal seem settled with the attacking options they have too.

Of course, another club could emerge with late interest, but Lennon’s desire to keep hold of the striker makes a deal between now and Monday evening seem extremely unlikely.

With a game in hand and that tie against Rangers coming up, October could prove to be a significant month for the club and one that will be boosted by Edouard’s stay.
