‘I think he will’ - Celtic legend makes prediction about Scott Brown’s Parkhead future

Celtic midfielder and captain Scott Brown has been at the club for 13 years after signing in 2007 from Hibernian. His career at the Hoops has seen him mature into a true Parkhead legend.

He has won 22 trophies in his time in Glasgow, including ten Scottish Premiership titles, and Celtic legend Frank McAvennie has been discussing the future of Brown as he nears the end of his career.

Brown is now 35, and even though he remains a vital player for the Hoops, he won’t be able to keep it up for much longer.

What did McAvennie say about Celtic star Scott Brown?

McAvennie was asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Brown’s future and he said: “When the time is right I think he will go onto the coaching staff and has the potential to go into management.

“I heard that he is doing some coaching at the moment at Celtic. He knows that he cannot play at the top level forever. Every time someone says he is finished he proves everyone wrong. I am a great believer in ‘age is only a number’.

“The biggest advice I can give him is play as long as you can because you miss it. Coaching is nothing compared to getting out there on the park on a Saturday.”

Could Celtic captain Brown be a manager in the future?

Brown has vast playing experience, with 640 appearances throughout his career for both Celtic and the Hibs.

No fewer than 580 of those have been for the Hoops, where he has managed 45 goals and 60 assists. Playing the bulk of his career at Parkhead has enabled Brown to inspire Celtic to a plethora of league titles and the 35 year-old also has 55 international appearances to his name, scoring four times for Scotland.

He has a rich CV and has worked under managers such as Neil Lennon and Brendan Rodgers, from whom he may have learned plenty.

It should be interesting to see if he decides to embark on a career as a manager, but having been Celtic captain for ten years during a very successful era, his leadership skills certainly seem to highlight him as a strong candidate to follow Lennon from the Parkhead pitch to the dugout.
