Doubt cast over Rangers' move for £4.32m-valued star admired by Walter Smith
According to a source from The Scotsman, Glasgow Rangers have not been in contact with Jack Wilshere.
Deal not close for Wilshere
It seemed that Wilshere, who recently terminated his contract by mutual consent at West Ham, was close to a move to Ibrox. It was even said that he was in advanced talks with the 54-time Scottish champions over a potential deal.
However, a source said:
“Rangers would be an option for Jack if there had been any contact. So far, however, there hasn’t been any.
“Jack thinks Rangers are a great club.
“They tried to take him on loan when Walter Smith was in charge back in 2010 just as he was starting out at Arsenal but he ended up going to Bolton.”
No rush for Gerrard
This may well seem a bit anti-climatic, but don’t panic Rangers fans – there is no rush to get this deal done. After all, Wilshere is a free agent, meaning that he can be signed at any point during the season. Videos of him training are currently circulating online, an indicator that he is clearly trying to work his way back to full fitness after two injury-ravaged seasons.
Once he does that, Rangers may well be willing to make their move – they are likely to at least be monitoring the situation. Whilst Wilshere may not be the player he was when he was called the “future of English football” by Spain legend Xavi, he is still a talented footballer who should have plenty to offer. His injury record is of course a worry, but there should still be value to be found in agreeing a contract with the £4.32m-valued 28-year-old.
