‘I believe so’ - Jose Mourinho issues promising transfer update on 6 ft 3 beast
Speaking in a press conference, quotes courtesy of Sky Sports, Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho spoke of his optimism surrounding signing a striker as Spurs reportedly agree a loan move for Benfica star forward Carlos Vinicius – with the Portuguese claiming he believes his club can confirm a new attacker before deadline day.
Vinicius, who bagged 24 goals last season in Liga NOS, earning the nickname ‘beast’, was linked with a move to Spurs before the explosion of reports over this last day.
Indeed, reliable correspondent Alasdair Gold broke the news on Wednesday, with Sky Sports transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently confirming that an agreement had been reached over his loan with a £41.5 million option-to-buy next summer.
However, as per this breaking news, Romano also hinted that Mourinho is yet to approve the deal – but judging by his candid press conference, it appears to only be a matter of time as Tottenham close in on their sixth summer signing.
“I am optimistic, but more than that the feeling that I like is that we are trying everything to do it,” explained Mourinho.
“You succeed or you don’t succeed. It’s like a football match: you win or you don’t win but you give everything and try everything. The transfer market is the same.
“I like the feeling that my club is trying to do everything for us and for the team, that’s the most important thing for me.
“If we succeed then great – I believe so – but if we don’t then that’s football.”
The acquisition of Vinicius could solve a plethora of issues for the Spurs boss, especially considering his towering 6 ft 3 frame coupled with a physicality which has the potential to cause problems in England’s top flight.
A proven goalscorer in Portugal, the 25-year-old could come as a long term striking partner to star man Harry Kane, and in the mean time serve as a crucial back up.
When or if Tottenham confirm this new signing once medicals and certain spot checks are out of the way, it appears Lilywhites could have a real star in the making on their hands.
