Wilder makes 1 change, Sharp dropped: Sheff Utd predicted XI vs Chelsea - Opinion

The morale around Sheffield United will be great at the moment as two wins and a draw in their last three games see them have a real chance of finishing in a European spot, per BBC Sport.

Their last game against sixth placed Wolves sums up how good their season has been as they kept a clean sheet and managed to score a last minute winner courtesy of John Egan to claim the three points and move to within one point of their opponents.

The fixtures don’t get any easier as they now face a game against Frank Lampard’s high scoring Chelsea. They have scored 13 goals in their last six fixtures so the Blades defence needs to be at their best if they want to keep another clean sheet. Here is the Transfer Tavern predicted Sheffield United starting XI, which sees Chris Wilder make one change for the fixture.

Supporters of the club would have been excited to see Jack O’Connell return to the starting eleven in their last fixture, and they will be even happier that their defensive five and the goalkeeper kept their 12th Premier League clean sheet which is the joint fourth most in the division. It is unlikely that Wilder will change the defensive unit, and understandably so.

Changes in the midfield are also unlikely, although John Fleck may return to the bench as Wilder said in the build-up: “We’ll leave [a decision] right to the end and give [him] the best possible chance of being involved.”

Midfielder John Lundstram returned to the squad and was an unused substitute against Wolves, but with the club doing so well with the current midfield, it seems likely that Sander Berge will retain his place ahead of the ex-Everton man.

Forward David McGoldrick was unavailable for the last fixture due to injury and it is still uncertain as to whether he will recover for the Chelsea game. Meanwhile Billy Sharp and Oliver McBurnie did not perform at their best as they picked up a 6.6 and 6.8 rating respectively, per SofaScore.

It will be interesting to see how the Blades will start upfront, Lys Mousset with his pace could be an ideal attacker to start for this fixture, and with Billy Sharp proving more of an influence from the bench in the Burnley fixture, Wilder might try and use him as a ‘super sub’ again and keep McBurnie in the starting eleven.
