SportsReport: Luke Edwards makes Newcastle takeover claim after Tottenham loss
Luke Edwards has claimed on his official Twitter page that Newcastle United need the proposed takeover to happen if they would like to maintain a challenge for the top 10 next season.

Indeed, it is now mathematically impossible for the Magpies to finish in the top half of the Premier League in this 2019/20 campaign, following their 3-1 home defeat at St. James’ Park at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, leaving them eight points off of 10th with just two games in England’s highest division left to play.
Two goals from Harry Kane after Matt Ritchie cancelled out Heung-Min Son’s opener killed the hopes of a finish in the top half, leaving Edwards to share his thoughts.
As per his tweet, Edwards believes that the Tyneside club would need to recruit as many as six players in the upcoming summer transfer window, and suggested that they would need the takeover to happen to achieve this.
Indeed, to attract the calibre of players that they may want to achieve a finish in the top 10, they may need to pay over the odds, and to get as many as six of them in would likely prove costly.
Hence, if the prospective £300 million deal between Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley’s Saudi Arabian-led group goes through, then a lot more money is likely to be available at their disposal for when the market opens.
In this case, Edwards may be right to suggest that the takeover needs to happen so that the Toon Army can attract the calibre of players needed for NUFC to achieve a top 10 finish.
