"It's a big concern"- Mikel Arteta reveals major worry at Arsenal ahead of 20/21
Arsenal have a big transfer window coming up this summer as Mikel Arteta looks to rebuild a squad around players that he wants. It is his first summer window, and the only money he has spent so far is £7.20 million on the injured Pablo Mari this summer. However the manager is worried about how much he will be backed financially in the summer.
Arteta was speaking to Sky Sports following the Gunners great victory against Liverpool, and was asked about whether he was worried about the lack of funds at the club.
He said: “It’s a big concern. You can see how [Liverpool] build their squad and there is no magic, you need to improve the squad with quality, quality players. And we need a bigger squad to compete in this competition. That is the challenge.”
This seems to confirm that Arsenal will have a lack of funds in the transfer window, and should come as a worry to supporters as it looks like they won’t be able to have a massive rebuild.
This also means that Arteta will have to decide very carefully which players he wants to sign and could see his goals of trying to battle at the top of the division be much more difficult. That said, with performances like the one against Liverpool, supporters will be encouraged that he can still take them in the right direction.
Hopefully it will not be as big an issue as many think, but given Arsenal currently sit ninth in the Premier League, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that some investment in the squad is needed.
The lack of funds will make the transfer window an interesting watch, and supporters will be hoping that some deals go through until the final minute on deadline day.
