Report: High-flying side want Gers' Morelos to provide competition for £36m-valued star
As per ItaSportPress, Lazio are targetting Alfredo Morelos as back-up for Ciro Immobile.
The Colombia international has been the subject of plenty of interest in the past few weeks and months, and it has even been reported that the Gers expect to lose their star striker this summer.
Now, it is the Rome-based outfit that are looking at the 24-year-old, with the price tag currently set at €20m (£17.9m).
Since moving to Lazio, £36m-valued Immobile – as per Transfermarkt – has been one of the very best strikers on the planet. He has scored at least 15 Serie A goals in his last four seasons, including this one, and has thrice managed over 20 – this term alone, he already has 29 to his name, and those strikes have helped his side to second in the Italian top tier.
As such, Morelos would have a job on his hands to replace the Italy international, but even the very best need competition to stay at the top of their game, and the Ibrox outfit’s striker would no doubt provide that. With 29 goals to his name last term, including 14 in European competition, he has proven he knows where the back of the net and, in this market, he could well be something of a bargain.
For Steven Gerrard, Ross Wilson and co, it is just another rumour to contend with. With each passing day, it becomes more and more unlikely that he will be spending next term with the 54-time Scottish champions.
