Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is approaching his first summer transfer window since taking over at the club last December.
There could be a rebuild as the Spaniard starts to build a squad that he wants and that he believes can succeed, and former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell believes that several players need to come in if the Londoners want to push further up the table next term.
Speaking to Genting Bet (via The Mirror), Campbell said: “Arsenal need four or five players across the board. They need centre-halves, I can see them going for one or two players in that position.
“They also need central midfielders, and more energy across the midfield and either another striker or a wide player.
“I could see three players coming to Arsenal, dependent on recruitment and transfer budget – I’m not sure what’s going to happen and I’m not sure who Arteta is looking at.”
It’s hard to disagree with the former striker here as the Gunners currently sit outside the European places in the Premier League with only two games to go and are at risk of being without continental football for the first time since the 1995/96 campaign, per Goal.
This emphasises that the current squad is not up for a top six battle and Arsenal definitely need greater quality if they want to be battling with England’s best teams next season.
With Dani Ceballos currently set to go back to Real Madrid, the Gunners will also be losing a starting midfielder. Also, with Sead Kolasinac’s error against Tottenham and David Luiz’ mistakes against Manchester City highlighting inconsistency in the defence, there is certainly plenty of room for improvement, which is why Campbell has called for numerous additions to be made this summer.
Hopefully the club can improve the squad and give the manager what he wants in the hope that it will bring success for the Gunners.
