Steve Bruce has revealed the transfer plans of Newcastle United regardless of whether the proposed takeover in the North East happens or not.
Speaking ahead of his team’s Premier League game with Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park, the manager was asked once again about the prospective takeover and how it could possibly affect his transfer plans ahead of the new season, to which he replied (via The Chronicle): “If it doesn’t (go through) then we just have to try to be prepared the best we possibly can be and get ready on next season.”
Indeed, it is unclear as to whether the £300 million deal between Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley’s Saudi Arabian-led group will actually be approved by the top flight given the ongoing delays that has meant that an official announcement has not yet been made.
Thus it is a confusing time for the Tyneside club and for Bruce himself, as he does not know just how much money will be at his disposal to spend as well as what calibre of player he would be able to attract to the Magpies.
Nevertheless, the Englishman is clearly preparing for the worst possible scenario so that the Toon do not end up in as much limbo for when the window eventually opens.
The buying side will likely have an abundance of disposable income to spend in the market with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabian (KSA) crown prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS) and his country’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), in addition to the billionaire Reuben brothers as well as Staveley all potentially with deep pockets.
