Gerrard makes 6 changes, Barker and Defoe start: RFC's predicted XI vs Nice - opinion

Glasgow Rangers kicked off their Veolia Trophy campaign with a 2-0 victory against Lyon.

Next up, they place Nice on Saturday evening, with the clash coming just two days after that game against Les Gones.

In an attempt to avoid needless injuries and give players chances, Steven Gerrard could well make plenty of changes for this next challenge. Here, we try to predict his starting XI.

In goal, Jon McLaughlin should be one of the few players to keep his place in the side. He impressed against Lyon, and with Allan McGregor still carrying a niggling injury, there is no need for Gerrard to change.

The back four could see some different faces though. George Edmundson did well against Lyon and should be given another opportunity to shine, whilst James Tavernier should also start, but we could see 20-year-old Lewis Mayo and Calvin Bassey come into the first XI.

Glen Kamara was left on the bench for the first half in that last clash, and so he should come in to join Ryan Jack in the middle of the park. In a three in front of that pairing, Brandon Barker should replace Ryan Kent after the left winger was sent off, with Greg Stewart being given a chance on the other side. Ianis Hagi, after scoring, should keep his place.

Up front, Jermain Defoe could replace Alfredo Morelos. He will be hoping to get on the scoresheet, something the Colombia international was unable to do last time out.
