Report: Newcastle given boost in pursuit of £18.1m-valued ace who could join after takeover

Newcastle United have been given a fairly major boost in their pursuit of M’Baye Niang as Foot Mercato reported that Al-Duhail, a club based in Qatar, have had a bid rejected worth around 15 million euros, which equates to roughly £13.6 million.

As per the outlet, Stade Rennais are demanding a transfer fee of closer to 20 million euros, which equates to around £18.1 million.

Through the agent of the former Magpies now Tottenham Hotspur player Moussa Sissoko, the Qatari side had started negotiations with Niang, but the money that they offered up front was rejected by the French team.

The Qatari club are owned by Sheikh Tamim ben Hamad Al Thani, who also owns Paris Saint Germain, and it is believed that they have not given up in their own pursuit of the 25-year old.

However, they will reportedly face competition form Steve Bruce’s side as well as West Ham United and Frankfurt from the German Bundesliga.

If the Toon were able to come up with the cash that Rennes are demanding for Niang, then the Senegalese international could be free to join them in the upcoming summer transfer window, as he may even join a new era at St. James’ park if the proposed takeover in the North East is completed before the new season starts.

Niang has scored a relatively impressive 15 goals and made a further two assists in 36 games in all competitions so far in the 2019/20 campaign, according to Transfermarkt, so it may take a high fee for the club to sell him.

Nevertheless, Amanda Staveley’s group will surely have enough money available to sign him if they wanted to.

Geordies, would Niang be a good signing? Comment below!
