Chelsea handed huge boost as rivals drop out of race to sign £70m-valued ace – Opinion

Chelsea’s hunt for Kai Havertz could have been given a huge boost as Bayern Munich have reportedly ended their interest in the 21-year-old.

According to SportBild (via Daily Mail), the German champions are no longer looking to poach Havertz from Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen. Instead, they are focusing their interest on acquiring Leroy Sané from Manchester City.

Chelsea are still firmly in the race for the young star, with Roman Abramovich reportedly getting in touch with Havertz personally to try and make the move happen (reported by Sport Buzzer, via Express).

According to the report, Bayern are in no position to meet the quoted £70million price tag for Havertz, but haven’t written him off. Instead, they are looking to revisit a potential move in 2021 but for now, City’s German winger is their priority.

This could be the good news Chelsea are looking for as they continue to be linked with big names to bolster their squad.

Frank Lampard has already strengthen his attack by signing Hakim Ziyech and agreeing terms with another of the Bundesliga’s finest in Timo Werner.

Havertz could be a key addition to Chelsea’s midfield and he will no doubt be an ever-present figure in the middle of the park.

A move to Bayern would have been convenient and arguably ideal for Havertz who could stay in his home country but be almost guaranteed success. However, this update could be the turning point which could see him make a move overseas to England.

The 21-year-old will make an even bigger name for himself by joining one of the best clubs on the planet and one of the most successful in the Premier League. To be part of Lampard’s current project is an opportunity not many young players will find easy to turn down.

If the Blues can keep their top four spot this season and secure Champions League football, Havertz could become an integral part in the reconstruction of this grand Chelsea side. And as a youngster, he has plenty of years ahead of him to establish himself as one of the Premier League’s brightest talents.
