'Doesn’t want to be here', 'As bad as the ref' - Many SAFC fans slam 'horrific' ace v Charlton
A number of Sunderland fans hit out at winger Aiden McGeady on Saturday following his performance in the 1-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic.
The 35-year-old, who has been at the club since 2017, was making his 11th appearance of the current campaign under Lee Johnson.
McGeady started on the left-hand side in a 4-2-3-1 system, but he couldn’t add to his two goals and four assists for the season.
The Irishman played the entirety of the fixture at the Stadium of Light but failed to have a shot on target, lost six of his duels and gave away possession 17 times. [SofaScore]
McGeady was named captain, but it was Charlton skipper Jayden Stockley who proved to be the match winner with his second half strike.
Sunderland fans react
Here is what these Black Cats supporters had to say about McGeady’s display on social media, with many not happy and one labelling the 35-year-old as ‘horrific’.
“McGeady doesn’t want to be here. There’s your answers.”
“Take the armband off McGeady aswell. Absolute passenger.”
“McGeady and O’Brien almost as bad as the ref.”
“Flanagan and Prichard played alright, McGeady and O’Nien though, they had a horrific day at the office.“
“Well done McGeady, you had a great few seasons for SAFC but you need to hang up now mate. Utter dross. He stepped over to a ghost in the first half. And yet LJ kept him on”
“Is it me or was McGeady and O’Brien absolutely awful”
“Persisting with McGeady is a joke. Seems to have lost all end product. Doesn’t impact games any more. Pritchard was having a much better game.”
