Southampton eye £22.5m move for 25 y/o once hailed as 'up there with Wayne Rooney'
According to Het Laatste Nieuws (via Hampshire Live), Southampton are interested in signing former Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj.
Hasenhuttl wants Januzaj
Januzaj spent six years with the Red Devils between 2011 and 2017, scoring five times in 63 appearances before making the move to Real Sociedad.
For the Basque outfit, he has netted 16 and created a further 14 in 96 games, with two goals coming in six matches this season. AC Milan and AS Roma are both also interested in the 25-year-old, with Sociedad looking for €25m (£22.5m) for his services.
Still unfulfilled potential
With Januzaj, it is still a case of unfulfilled potential. His debut for United came as a teenager, and there was plenty of praise for him as a youngster – David Moyes even said he was the best young talent he has managed, “up there with Wayne Rooney”.
Januzaj has 12 caps for his country, and scored a fantastic strike against England at the 2018 World Cup. The main challenge for him is being able to produce his best on a regular basis. Under Hasenhuttl, though, who has taken the Saints to the top four so far this campaign, he could finally match the fuss around his ability. It remains to be seen whether the speculation turns into something more concrete.
In other news, Southampton eye this pacey 24-year-old.
