Rangers ace exiled by Steven Gerrard shines with crucial goal on international duty
Glenn Middleton scored for Scotland’s U21s against Croatia on Thursday in their 2-2 draw.
Middleton impresses
The 20-year-old was included in the starting line-up for the Tartan Army’s clash. Croatia went 2-0 up early on, but the Ibrox youngster halved the deficit with an effort from outside the box in the second half.
The former Norwich City ace now has two goals and five assists in 14 matches at that level.
Proving Gerrard wrong
During the 2018/19 campaign, it looked as though Middleton would have a big future with the 54-time Scottish champions. Even as a teenager, he scored five times and provided five assists in 28 matches.
However, he did not play a single minute under Steven Gerrard last term, instead having loan spells with Hibernian and Bradford City. This campaign, as well, he has been totally exiled – although Rangers remain unbeaten in 20 matches in all competitions, Middleton could surely have earned some playing time.
It is peculiar as to why the youngster has not been considered at all by his manager after such a positive start. We can’t see behind the scenes, of course, and there may be some attitude problems that need to be solved. There has been no speculation that Middleton is difficult to deal with, though.
At just 20 years of age, there is plenty of time for the winger to turn things around. If things do not change soon, though, he may well be forced to seek pastures new.
In other news, Rangers fans react to this shocking news about their UEL opponents.
