Former Scotland manager Alex McLeish believes that Celtic may consider selling Vasilas Barkas after a poor start to life at Parkhead.
Celtic losing faith in Barkas?
The 26-year-old has come under scrutiny since his £3m move from AEK Athens in the summer, and found himself dropped to the bench as his side beat Motherwell 4-1 before the international break.
Despite keeping eight clean sheets from his first 14 appearances for the Bhoys (TransferMarkt), Barkas has made significant errors, like during the 2-0 defeat to arch-rivals Rangers earlier in the campaign.
This led to the likes of former striker Tam McManus to voice his views on the Greek shot-stopper, describing him as “horrendous” (cited by This is Futbol).
Speaking with Football Insider, McLeish feels that if Barkas leaves the club, it could lead to a mass exodus of underperforming players at Celtic Park.
“Well, with the Old Firm, you know they sometimes don’t get the time,” he said. “If you don’t make quick decisions, if you feel that this is not going to work, then you have to make a really quick decision, and try and do business as quickly as possible.
“I don’t know where they’re at with the goalkeeper, Barkas, right now but it seems that he’s been under a little bit of pressure, along with a lot of the other players. The question is if he goes, does everybody that’s been in that wee bad spell go?
“Again, the goalkeeping coaches at Celtic, the manager’s own assistants will all be assessing the quality of the incumbents and they have to be realistic and also know it’s difficult to get other goalkeepers, maybe playing at a higher level, from the clubs.
“It’s kind of up in the air, this rumour, but whether they have lost patience with Barkas, I don’t know.”

While McLeish may have a point, it would be harsh from Lennon to give up on his new signing so quickly.
Sure, he has had a poor start and Scott Bain has come into the mix and performed competently, but that shouldn’t mean that Neil Lennon should wash his hands with Barkas.
While the Hoops may be playing catchup to Rangers in the table, and are struggling in Europe, there is plenty of time for Barkas to turn his fortunes around and he should be given the opportunity to prove it.
