Gers' PL nemesis eye key Ibrox figure who 'gave the whole of Scottish football a lift'
According to Football Insider, Leeds United are once again interested in Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard eventually replacing current boss Marcelo Bielsa.
Gerrard on Leeds radar
Gerrard has done a fantastic job at Ibrox so far this campaign. The Gers are currently top of the Premiership by nine points, and also lead the way in their Europa League group along with Benfica. In fact, they are unbeaten in 20 games in all competitions so far this term. Such has been his influence, former St. Johnstone manager Tommy Wright said that Gerrard “gave the whole of Scottish football a lift”.
It seems his success has once again attracted the attention of the Elland Road outfit, who are looking to the 40-year-old to replace Bielsa if he does depart.
Unsurprising
It will hardly come as a shock to Rangers that clubs south of the border are interested in Gerrard’s services – that comes with the territory of putting together a team that is playing so well. The fact it is Leeds though will not go down too well with the 54-time Scottish champions’ hierarchy.
The Whites have become something of a nemesis in the transfer market for the Gers. During the previous transfer window, they had a £10m bid rejected for Ryan Kent, whilst they were also linked with moves for Connor Goldson and Borna Barisic, and this isn’t the first time they’ve eyed Gerrard either. The gaffer is bound to leave at some point, but it is unlikely it will be this term, at least – he has unfinished business north of the border.
In other news, Rangers fans are delighted by this latest resignation.
