'Could be a good replacement for Allan' - Everton urged to decide on 'perfect' January business

Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Everton to loan out Jean-Philippe Gbamin when the January transfer window comes around.

Indeed, the Ivory Coast international has been posting videos of his training and work in the gym ahead of his proposed return to the first team squad at the end of the calendar year.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa and England international striker thinks that the defensive midfield player needs to go out on loan in order to get some regular game time for when he returns to the squad, and even claimed that he could eventually replace Allan in the first team if he does well:

“Sometimes a loan is perfect for certain players and for him definitely.

“He needs to get himself out on loan, play some games and then when you come back you could get yourself back into the squad.

“He could be a good replacement for Allan because for me the jury is still out.

“Allan has got quality but in the last few games he has been found out a bit and he needs to get back to how he was playing in the last few games.”

Gbamin’s injury woes

Indeed, Gbamin has had a lot of trouble with various injury problems ever since his move from Mainz, missing a grand total of 46 matches over all competitions over the 2019/20 season due to an Achilles tendon rupture and problems with his hamstring (Transfermarkt).

Solid before his injuries

Gbamin was a solid player before his injury woes while playing in the Bundesliga, winning no fewer than 5.3 of his duels per appearance and also averaging 1.6 tackles and one interception per game in the 2018/19 term (Sofascore).

His ability to win the ball back can give license for the attacking stars to go forward that bit more, so he could be an important asset to the Merseyside club in the future.

Should he be loaned out?

Indeed, with the likes of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure being bought by Carlo Ancelotti’s team in the summer transfer window, perhaps Gbamin would struggle to break into the first team once he fully recovers from his injury problems.

Thus, it may be a wise idea to send the 25 year-old out on loan in order to find his feet, and more importantly, his fitness, with a view to breaking into Ancelotti’s side next season.
