'What a great opportunity' - Pundit believes Everton have been given major boost ahead of derby

Danny Mills thinks that having Allan, Andre Gomes and Richarlison fit for the Merseyside derby will be a major boost to Everton.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former Leeds United and Manchester City defender was asked as to whether the return of these players would give Carlo Ancelotti a major boost against Liverpool, to which he said:

“Yes definitely.

“The Merseyside derby is going to be cracking, isn’t it?

“Everton could go six points clear ahead of Liverpool after five games. I mean, who’d have thought that?

“If Manchester City lose to Arsenal they’ll have lost two games this season.

“Liverpool could have lost two games within five and it’s feasible the way Everton are playing at the moment.

“They’ll have great confidence, with Liverpool’s previous result do they come out fighting? Do they come out wounded? Or does it affect them? Is there a bit of a hangover from that considering they haven’t really been together since then because of the international break?

“What a great opportunity for Everton. They’ve got players coming back fit, raring to go, in good form, playing against a Liverpool side that you’re unsure about.

“I think it’s going to be a fantastic game, it’ll be brilliant. They’ll be goals in it that’s for sure.”

Allan has been a key signing

Indeed, there is no doubt that the arrival of Allan from Napoli in the summer transfer window has been key to the success of the Goodison Park club so far ithis term.

In his three games in the Premier League so far, he has won a rather impressive 6.7 of his duels per game and has also averaged four tackles, 1.7 clearances and 1.3 interceptions per match, according to Sofascore.

The hard work that the Brazil international performs to win the ball back means that the the attackers have the licence to go forward a bit more knowing that they have strong protection behind them.

Richarlison has been a menace

Indeed, Richarlison has also had a good start to the season, scoring four goals and providing a further two assists in just six matches so far over all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

The 23-year old has won a quite staggering 11.3 duels per match in the top flight so far and has also averaged four successful dribbles, 2.8 tackles and 2.3 shots per game (per Sofascore).

Gomes has been an unsung hero

Gomes has almost been an unsung hero for the Toffees, with much of the talk about the new signings of Allan, James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure in the centre of the park.

In the three matches that the Portugal international has played in the Premier League so far in this campaign, he has won four of his duels per game and has also averaged two tackles and 63.7 touches of the ball per match (via Sofascore).

Indeed, in a similar vein to Allan, Gomes keeps the game ticking in midfield for the Toffees, and all three players may be important in their respective roles if the Blues are to get a win against their bitter rivals.
