‘West Ham aren’t ready’ - Many Liverpool fans excited to see ‘young baller’ v West Ham
Plenty of Liverpool fans have been reacting to the news that Rhys Williams is in line to start this evening’s Premier League clash against West Ham.
According to The Athletic’s James Pearce, the 19-year-old centre-back could start alongside Joe Gomez in the heart of the Reds’ defence, with his fellow Englishman being the only established central defender at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal.
Virgil van Dijk ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament against Everton after a hard tackle from goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, and Joel Matip has struggled to keep fit for some time, so both have been ruled out for tonight’s game.
Williams replaced Fabinho during their 2-0 win against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League after the Brazilian limped off with a hamstring injury during the first half, after which Trent Alexander-Arnold described his performance as “world-class” (via LFCTV).
With this in mind, many supporters are excited to see the “young baller” make his Premier League debut as he aims to walk in the same footsteps as Anfield legends that have gone before him.
