'This should help' - Many Man United fans expect transfer incoming after £14.5m player sale
Many Manchester United fans have reacted to a tweet from Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Chris Smalling is set for a permanent move to AS Roma.
30-year-old English centre-back Smalling spent last season on loan in Serie A with Roma and largely impressed, featuring in 30 league games.
Returning to Old Trafford at the end of the 2019/20 season, the Greenwich born defender has been linked with a return to the Stadio Olimpico and such a move is now being reported as close to completion.
Despite reports from Sky Sports claiming that Roma had fallen short of United’s £20m valuation of Smalling, Romano has claimed that a slightly cheaper deal is now all-but agreed with a three-year contract set to be signed.
Meeting right now between Roma and #MUFC [by intermediaries] for Chris Smalling. The agreement is really close to be completed [new bid around €16m].

Aside from Roma’s expected deal of around £14.5m deal for Smalling, Romano also claims that the Italian giants want to bring Diogo Dalot in on a season-long loan deal.
However, United are said to only be interested in selling the Portuguese defender who has also been linked with a move to AC Milan.
Reacting to Romano’s tweet, United fans seemed happy with the potential of both Smalling and Dalot leaving Old Trafford, prompting many to call for a move to be made for Porto left-back Alex Telles, who has been linked in the past few days.
Here we look at a few of the tweets from those United fans…
This should help the Telles deal get done

Should we expect Telles to be completed once this is done?

Smalling really wanted that Roma move. Hopefully they will re invest that €16m in the team. But aren’t we supposed to be replacing him??
