SportsReport: Three Everton players given big boost as news emerges
Three Everton players have been given a big boost as they have been called up to play for the senior England national team by manager Gareth Southgate.
As confirmed by the official website of the Three Lions, those players are regulars Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane, plus there has been a first call-up to the senior side for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Three games will be played at Wembley Stadium during the international break, with Wales first up in a friendly before two UEFA Nations League matches against Belgium and Denmark, respectively.
The three Merseyside club players will all be hoping to feature, especially Calvert-Lewin, who could make his full senior debut.
The 23-year old has enjoyed a decent scoring record for England at youth level, scoring no fewer than 13 goals in 31 appearances combined for the Under-20 and Under-21 sides, according to Transfermarkt.
The call-up is a real testament to the very impressive 2020/21 term that Calvert-Lewin has had so far under Carlo Ancelotti, scoring eight times in just five games over all competitions, as per the TM website.
On the other hand, Pickford will be looking to cement his place as England’s number one goalkeeper under Southgate by adding to the clean sheet that he kept in the Nations League away fixture against the Danes, whilst Keane will be hoping to break into the starting eleven ahead of the likes of Liverpool’s Joe Gomez and Manchester United’s Harry Maguire.
Nonetheless, it is a big boost to the Toffees trio that they have the opportunity to play for their country and hopefully, all three will do themselves, and England, proud.
