Report: Leeds' transfer strategy could halt interest in 5-assist speedster
Leeds United are unlikely to make a bid for Juventus speedster Douglas Costa this summer, according to TEAMtalk.
Elland Road boss Marcelo Bielsa has followed up his Championship title success and promotion to the Premier League by bringing in some new faces at the club, including the likes of Rodrigo Moreno and Diego Llorente.
Linked with Brazilian attacker Costa over the last few weeks, Leeds are said to be in a three horse race with Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United for the three-time Serie A winner.
Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla claims that whilst Wolves have made an offer to sign the former Bayern Munich attacker, Manchester United are also keen and Leeds continue to watch as developments occur.
However, TEAMtalk have somewhat countered that claim, revealing that the latter are not keen on bringing in players over the age of 30 at the current time, a transfer strategy which would of course rule out a move for the Brazilian.
Costa, who found the back of the net just once in Serie A last season, getting five assists in the process, has fallen down the pecking order with Juve as new boss Andrea Pirlo looks to freshen up his side this term.
One player who could arrive at Elland Road in the coming days is Todd Cantwell, with various reports claiming talks are underway between Leeds and Norwich over a deal.
Douglas Costa has firmly established himself as one of European football’s top and most successful attackers, winning titles with Bayern Munich and Juve.
Despite his success, it does seem his time has come with the Old Lady and it will certainly be interesting to see where he ends up next.
Having had 31-caps for Brazil at international level, matched with his domestic success, Costa will certainly provide experience wherever he lands.
Man United, Wolves and Leeds are all possible destinations, however, the latter now seem to be out of the race.
