Report: Leeds agree personal terms on move that would take summer spending over £90m

Leeds United are said to be in talks with Norwich City over a move for midfielder Todd Cantwell, according to Football Insider, while Nicolo Schira reports they have already agreed personal terms with the Canaries starlet.

After a superb 2019/20 campaign which saw Marcelo Bielsa guide the Yorkshire club to the Championship title and automatic promotion to the Premier League, the Argentine has been busy utilising the transfer market to bolster his squad options.

Having already spent £79.38m on the likes of Diego Llorente, Rodrigo Moreno, Helder Costa, Robin Koch, Illan Meslier and Joe Gelhardt, it now looks likely that Bielsa will increase his summer spending with the potential arrival of Cantwell.

Cantwell suffered relegation from the Premier League with Norwich City last term, despite playing well on an individual basis, grabbing six goals and two assists in his 37 top-flight appearances.

Valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, the England under-21 international is now tipped to move to Elland Road with Football Insider claiming a recruitment source has informed them that the club are set to secure an attacker ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.

That claim follows up an exclusive from the website over the weekend which revealed Leeds had made a £15million bid for Cantwell, who was then subsequently left out of Norwich’s Championship game with Bournemouth on the same day.

A move would therefore take the Whites’ summer spending over £90m, and whilst discussions over a move are said to have continued this week, Leeds boss Bielsa is reportedly also on the verge of securing a deal to bring in Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Cuisance.

With talks over a transfer fee continuing, Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has claimed via his personal Twitter account that Cantwell has infact agreed personal terms already to move to Elland Road.

This looks to be a great signing for Leeds. Cantwell is certainly a Premier League player, something he showed last term, despite the problems Norwich City suffered.

The talented attacker has a lot to offer, a talent that has been heavily praised as his development continued at Carrow Road, prompting the likes of former boss Daniel Farke to call him a ‘role model’ for young players despite his tender age.

Under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa and veteran Pablo Hernandez, the Dereham-born youngster could go on to become a top Premier League performer and he will certainly have that desire after suffering a drop down to the Championship last term.
