Everton have delayed talks with Marcel Brands, reagarding his contract, until January, according to the Liverpool Echo.
As per the news outlet, the contract of the sporting director runs out in the summer after he signed a three-year deal from PSV Eindhoven back in 2018.
It is understood that the Goodison Park faithful would usually wait until the turn of the year before discussing the futures of senior executives and this is expected, at this stage, to be the case with Brands too.
The Merseyside club are believed to value the work done by the 58-year old, who is also on the board of directors, since his arrival at the Toffees and they also like the continuity that the director of football model can offer.
Ancelotti has ‘a beautiful’ relationship’ with Brands
Indeed, Carlo Ancelotti said at the end of the 2019/20 term that he has ‘a beautiful relationship’ with Brands, suggesting that the Italian boss would like the Dutchman to stay on at the Blues.
Ancelotti has guided EFC to the top of the Premier League table and also booked his team a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-final so far in the 2020/21 season, with the help of his summer recruits.
Brands would have been involved in summer spending
Indeed, Brands would have been heavily involved in the summer spending of Everton, with the likes of Ben Godfrey, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure coming through the door for sizeable transfer fees.
Considering how well Ancelotti’s side are doing so far with the new recruits, perhaps Brands should be given an extension to his current deal in January.
