Sports'Pretty appetising' - Financial expert believes monumental £4.6bn plan could affect Rangers
Financial expert Kieran Maguire believes plans for a FIFA-backed European league involving some of England’s biggest clubs could offer an “appetising” opportunity for Glasgow Rangers.

English football has been rocked over the past few days as it emerged that clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool have been involved in talks over a potential new European league that would be backed by FIFA. The new tournament has a funding package of $6 billion (£4.6bn).
Maguire, who runs Twitter page PriceOfFootball, said:
“A Premier League with Everton, Leeds, Newcastle, Villa, Wolves, Leicester, West Ham, Rangers and Celtic all chasing the title would be pretty appetising if the Rich Six decide to go down the World Soccerball League route.”
Big opportunity for Rangers
There are plenty of reasons why a move to English football would make sense for the Gers, and indeed Celtic. At the moment, they are the only two sides who can ever hope to compete for a title. That may lead to passionate battles between the two, but it makes for a largely uncompetitive league on the whole, and less TV money to go with it.
Even without the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United, a move to the Premier League would be far more lucrative than staying north of the border. Rangers already have the fanbase and the historical prestige to fit into the English top-tier. A huge shake-up of European club football could provide them with the chance to prove it.
