Sports'Master coup' - Former Gers boss praises Ross Wilson's transfer stroke of genius
Former Glasgow Rangers manager Alex McLeish has called the Gers’ signing of Calvin Bassey a “master coup”.

Bassey made the move to Ibrox during the summer, with the Gers paying a compensation fee of just £300,000. He has already impressed with his displays, and he has earned praise as a result.
McLeish is particularly impressed with the capture of the 20-year-old. He told Ibrox News:
“Yeah, he’ll be happy to get his first action at the top level and he’s slotted in remarkably well at the left-back position.
“I remember my debut, I was absolutely bricking it. I just thought, ‘do what you can do and listen to the senior players around you’, and that’s what Bassey will be doing.
“That’s what the recruitment guys are there for. It’s a new system over the last 10-12 years, the chief scout with his army of people and the sporting director [Ross Wilson].
“He’ll have a database and he’ll be ready to snap up top players without spending huge amounts of money.
“For Rangers to get Bassey in from England is a master coup. Rangers deserve real credit for the transfer.”
Perfect back-up to Barisic
At the moment, Borna Barisic is the first-choice for Steven Gerrard at left-back. After all, he already has six assists in his first 14 games of the season. However, this will be a campaign like no other, with matches coming thick and fast – that means that Gerrard requires back-up across the pitch.
In Bassey, he now appears to have just that on the left side of the back four. So far, he has made just six appearances, but he helped the Gers to a 5-1 victory in his first start against Motherwell, whilst the 54-time Scottish champions were not handicapped when Bassey replaced Barisic in the first half against Standard Liege. In this case, Ross Wilson appears to have got his hands on a true bargain.
In other news, Dortmund want to sign this in-form Gers star.
