Former Premier League duo rave over 'unplayable' star who is the 'backbone to Palace'
Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha is still at Selhurst Park despite another transfer window which saw the player being linked with various clubs across Europe.
His quality is there for all to see, and he is clearly impressing as two former Premier League stars have heaped praise on the Ivorian.
What Don Hutchison and Dion Dublin had to say about Zaha
Don Hutchison praised the 27-year-old, saying: “People look at the Premier League and see superstars, and there might be better all-round players than Wilf Zaha, people like (Sadio) Mane and Kevin De Bruyne, but in one v one situations with the ball at his feet, I think he’s up there in Europe with some of the very best. You would never want to play against Wilf Zaha one v one.”
Meanwhile, Dion Dublin said of the Eagles star: “He sees things other players don’t see. He can do things other players can’t do. He is the backbone to Palace. He was unplayable. When he’s one on one, which is very rare because two get to him, it leaves other players free in the box.”
Zaha’s growth at Crystal Palace
Last season in England’s top flight, the winger had a subdued campaign as he only managed four goals and three assists, (WhoScored). However, this time around, Zaha already has five goals and one assist to his name, and he is also averaging 2.5 shots and 1.5 key passes a game. These figures highlight how crucial he is to Roy Hodgson’s side and just how good he can be when at his best.
It is clear to see why Dublin has called him ‘unplayable’ and said he is the ‘backbone to Palace’. That he has averaged 1.7 successful dribbles this season and 4.3 successful dribbles per game last term highlights how hard it is to play against him.
He has played an impressive 368 games in all competitions for the south London side, with 62 goals and 71 assists to his name (Transfermarkt). Hodgson has also rewarded him with the captaincy on occasions this season.
All in all, it is no shock to see pundits highlight the quality of Zaha. If his form continues, it could be a very exciting season for the Eagles.
