Fabrizio Romano drops massive Spurs transfer update on Twitter
Dropping a fresh update on Spurs’ pursuit of Carlos Vinicius, Sky Sports transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that he ‘is joining Tottenham’ on a season-long loan with an option to buy after Jose Mourinho approved the deal – putting an end to their long wait for a back-up striker to Harry Kane.
Vinicius, who bagged 24 goals in all competitions for Benfica last season, will now join Spurs temporarily for an initial £2.7 million and could sign permanently at the end of the season.
The 6 ft 3 attacker, who is now on the verge of officially putting pen to paper on a loan deal, was tipped as one of the targets on Daniel Levy’s agenda alongside his teammate Haris Seferovic and Habib Diallo.
Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold broke the news on Wednesday that Levy and co were attempting to complete an agreement for Vinicius, with Romano now confirming that the deal is all but done.
Journalist Duncan Castles claimed that a medical has been pencilled in for Friday and the signing could be announced very shortly, potentially a huge sigh of relief to Lilywhites supporters who were desperate to see a star striking back up to Kane.
Fernando Llorente left the club on a free transfer last summer, with Spurs unable to find a replacement until now, with Vinicius about to land in north London ahead of his potential unveiling – possibly this weekend.
As Spurs close in on their sixth summer signing, now anticipation builds over who will join him – but securing a striker before deadline day has eased the pressure ahead of a gruelling 2020/2021 Premier League season.
