‘Absolutely outstanding’ – Tony Pulis compliments Wolves 'phenomenal' £36m-rated superstar

Former Premier League manager Tony Pulis has been singing the praises of Wolves striker Raul Jimenez after another impressive start to the new campaign.

Pulis adores Jimenez

The 29-year-old has been impressive for the West Midlands outfit since his loan move from the Liga NOS side Benfica in 2018, which ended up becoming a £30m permanent switch the following year.

During that timeframe, the Mexico international has scored 46 goals and provided 18 assists from 104 appearances (as per TransferMarkt). Not a bad return for a player that was previously overlooked by the Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone.

Jimenez is a much-loved character around the dressing room, with Wolves’ skipper Conor Coady recently describing him as a “phenomenal” footballer and someone who is a “pleasure to work with”, via BirminghamLive.

Speaking to Sky Sports‘ Soccer Saturday (17/10/2020, 2:35 pm), Pulis hailed the impact that the Mexican hitman has had and believed that there are not many betters striker out there in the Premier League, suggesting that Tottenham’s Harry Kane is the only man who is better.

“If you take Kane out of the mix, I think the next pick, if you pick, you would be picking him”, he said.

“I think he has been absolutely outstanding for Wolves. He has led the line really, his work rate.”

Huge compliment

Wolves fans will be delighted to hear this about their talented striker. Comparisons with the England captain with go down well and they will appreciate that Jimenez is being recognised for his goalscoring ability.

If we look at the two players, Jimenez has scored two goals from his first four games, while Harry Kane has found the net on three occasions but has provided six assists from the same amount of matches.

Since Jimenez moved to England’s top tier, the £36m-rated star has 30 goals to his name while Kane has 35, so Pulis’ comparisons and claims appear to be fair.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have Jimenez to thank as a big factor in where the club currently stands. He has kept himself fit consistently and this will also play a huge part if Wolves are to move up the standings.
