Report: Rafa Benitez favourite reveals that he would re-sign for Newcastle given the chance

Former Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon has revealed to The Guardian that he would sign for the Tyneside club again given the chance.

Indeed, with the summer transfer window still open, perhaps there will now be some speculation as to whether Steve Bruce could look to bring him back to St James’ Park to give more cover up front for the likes of Callum Wilson and Andy Carroll.

Rondon managed to score a relatively impressive 12 goals and make a further seven assists in 33 games in all competitions over the course of the 2018/19 season, according to Transfermarkt.

Playing under Rafael Benitez, the Venezuelan international impressed the Spaniard so much that he decided to sign Rondon for Chinese club Dalian Professional, for whom he has managed to score 14 times and provide a further seven assists in 25 matches over all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

Having also played for West Bromwich Albion, the 31-year old has ample experience in English football; and given that he is apparently open to a move back to the northeast, perhaps it may not be a bad idea at all for the Magpies to bring him in as cover in case the likes of Wilson or Carroll get injured or just lose form.

However, the striker’s wages may potentially be a problem, and so if the club were to make a move for Rondon, they may have to negotiate a lower salary to fit in with their current wage structure at Newcastle.
