Report: Newcastle have offer accepted for promising talent who wins 6.6 duels a game

Newcastle United have had an offer accepted by Deportivo Municipal for Rodrigo Vilca, according to Diego Montalvan.

As per a tweet from the football journalist, he will play his last match on Wednesday and plan for his trip to England.

Vilca will be with the Tyneside club to practice and adapt to English football and then in the January transfer window they will decide whether to loan him out or not.

The Peruvian is regarded as a promising talent and has recently been called up to the national squad by Ricardo Gareca.

However, the Magpies apparently fear that he may lack the physical capabilities to make an impact in the Premier League just yet, and so Vilca may be moved out on loan from St. James’ Park in order to continue his development.

Indeed, it is not hard to see why he can be seen as such a prospect. The highly-rated playmaker has scored four goals and made a further three assists in 28 games in all competitions while playing in Peru (via Transfermarkt).

In 12 matches in Peru’s Liga 1 this year, Vilca has won a rather impressive 6.6 of his duels per game and has also averaged 1.5 key passes and 1.6 successful dribbles in addition to 1.3 shots a match (per Sofascore).

At just 21 years of age too, Vilca still has time to grow and develop in the attacking midfield role; and if he can improve his physicality, perhaps he would be able to break into NUFC’s first team under Steve Bruce, so long as the Toon can get his signature over the line before the transfer window shuts.

Geordies, would Vilca be a good signing? Comment below!
